20 Years of The Hotel
A Long, Storied History of the Dogmersfield EstateExplore the incredible history of Dogmersfield Park, dating back to 1086 when it was first mentioned in the Domesday Book as “Doccemerefeld,” named for the water lilies on the lake. Over the centuries, the Estate evolved from a royal retreat to a place of pioneering milestones.
Highlights from our Estate’s History
- 1501: Hosted Prince Arthur and Catherine of Aragon before their marriage, with the future King Henry VIII in attendance
- 1744: The iconic West Wing was built, where you can now find our Hotel’s Manor House
- 1789: The Basingstoke Canal was rerouted through Dogmersfield, shaping the Estate’s modern-day landscape
- 1942–1946: Played a role during WWII, housing airmen and serving as a school for orphans
- 1986: Officially reopened by HRH The Princess Royal
- 2005: Transformed into Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire, redefining luxury in the English countryside
