Talk story session with Dr. Keao NeSmith
Dr. NeSmith is a Native Hawaiian Linguist with a PhD in Applied Linguistics, acquired from the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand. He is a lecturer of both Hawaiian and Tahitian languages at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, and studied other languages such as Marquesan and Paʻumotu. He was born and raised in Kekaha, Kauaʻi, speaking our native tongue. Some of his work includes the translation of popular books (“The Hobbit,” the “Harry Potter” series, “Alice's Adventures in Wonderland” and more) into ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. He has composed mele (songs) for Cirque de Soleil: ʻAuana, Kumu Hula Leināʻala Pavao Jardin of Hālau Ka Lei Mokihana o Leināʻala, and others.
