PUERTO RICO BY FOUR SEASONS
ADMIRE WILDLIFE AS YOU CANOE ON A GENTLE RIVER
Set out paddling on Puerto Rico’s only navigable river, the Espíritu Santo. Just a few minutes from Four Seasons, the Reserva Natural Río Espíritu Santo features a short, serene waterway that may only be explored by canoe or small boat. As you pass along the riverbank, you might spot iguanas and tropical birds. There are also well-marked hiking trails that wind through thick forest, leading to beautiful waterfalls and natural pools. It’s a perfect destination for eco-tourism – and a picnic lunch custom-prepared by Four Seasons.1 / 4HIKE THROUGH A RARE TROPICAL RAINFOREST
Explore El Yunque National Forest, the only tropical rainforest in the United States National Forest system – just 9 miles (14 kilometres) from Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico. Amid the 28,000 acres (11,331 hectares) of dense foliage, you’ll find endless adventures with hiking trails, waterfalls and ziplines. Watch for over 240 tree species, 20 wild orchid varieties and 50 bird species. Let our Four Seasons Concierge plan your day – whether a leisurely trek or extreme adventure.2 / 4KAYAK AT NIGHT ON A BIOLUMINESCENT LAGOON
Discover one of the world’s most breathtaking natural phenomena in a fully guided night trip to Laguna Grande. Kayak up the river alongside beautiful mangroves and glide into the heart of the lagoon. As your paddle creates swirls in the water, microscopic plankton produce a glowing trail of blue light, illuminating fish and other underwater creatures. It’s a truly magical experience. There are only five known bioluminescent bays in the world – and this is one of three in Puerto Rico.3 / 4TRAVEL BACK IN TIME TO OLD SAN JUAN
Be sure to plan a visit to Old San Juan, the Caribbean’s legendary fortified port – about 27 miles (43 kilometres) from Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico. Spanning seven square blocks, this fascinating island community features over 400 colourful Spanish Colonial buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries. Stroll narrow cobblestone streets and discover restaurants, cafés, galleries and jewellery shops, along with small, quirky museums and restored forts. Spend a few hours soaking in the vintage atmosphere – with Four Seasons arranging transportation and providing shopping tips.4 / 4
SO MANY WAYS TO EXPLORE OUR PRIVATE NATURE RESERVE
Nestled on the island’s northeastern coast, between the towns of Río Grande and Luquillo, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico forms the heart of the Bahía Beach community. Of the property’s 483 acres (195 hectares), over 65% are considered sanctuary areas, including forests, marshes, freshwater lakes, a sandy beach and a coral reef. The reserve is home to over 240 unique species of flora and fauna, including the endangered leatherback turtle and Caribbean manatee. This is one of only a few resorts worldwide – and the only resort in the Caribbean – designated as a Certified Platinum Audubon International Signature Sanctuary. Our Four Seasons naturalists are ready to guide birdwatching walks on more than 7 miles (11 kilometres) of nature trails. Paddle a canoe or kayak on over 70 acres (28 hectares) of canals, ponds and lakes, or stroll our 2 miles (3.2 kilometres) of dedicated beach. Head out onto the ocean for snorkelling at the reef, kitesurfing, windsurfing and wingsurfing. At the Boathouse, you’ll find equipment for paddleboarding, kayaking and catch-and-release fishing, while the Nature Centre offers bikes to borrow and trail maps for excursions. We also offer nature activities for children and families, including our petting zoo, pet shelter and Kids For All Seasons program.
