- The Lodge measures and tracks energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste generation through the Four Seasons global utility management system.
- Vegan and vegetarian menu items are available.
- Linens and towels are replaced every third day, unless otherwise requested.
- The Lodge includes on-site solar generation infrastructure that supplies electricity for operations, providing sufficient electricity to support property operations during periods of low demand and up to 80% of electricity requirements during periods of maximum occupancy.
- Building systems and fixtures support optimizing water consumption throughout the property, including a full-scale on-site wastewater treatment plant that treats wastewater for reuse in various applications across the Lodge.
- Single-use plastics, including water bottles, bathroom amenities and takeaway food packaging, have been removed or replaced with non-plastic alternatives.
- A recycling program is in place.
- Seasonal menu items are available, including ingredients sourced from local suppliers.
- The Lodge serves cage-free eggs.
- A food waste reduction program is in place, including AI-enabled tools to identify, monitor and reduce food waste.
- The Lodge supports local biodiversity and conservation efforts, including through support for the Serengeti Rhino Conservation Project, the Serengeti De-Snaring Project, annual employee-led tree planting activities and programming held in connection with major environmental awareness days for guests and employees.
- Our on-site Discovery Centre offers guests opportunities to learn about the wildlife, history and people of the Serengeti through regular talks and presentations led by our Lodge Naturalist, Photographer-in-Residence and local wildlife experts.
- Guests can engage in educational tours at local, natural, cultural, historical or heritage sites to learn more about the local community.
- Linen, furniture and equipment are donated to those in need through Hope for Girls and Women and various educational institutions, including Robanda Secondary School and Serengeti Tourism College (SETCO).
- Local artists and artisans are featured throughout the Lodge, including works by local painters, handcrafted items created by members of the Maasai community and products from Sanaa, a social enterprise that employs people with disabilities to create artisanal pieces from recycled materials.
- Employees complete annual Human Trafficking Awareness training.
- We collaborate with local colleges to provide scholarships that support education and skills development in the tourism and hospitality sector, including the National College of Tourism (NCT), the College of African Wildlife Management Mweka (CAWM), National Vocational Training Centres (VETA) and SETCO.
- The Lodge supports workforce development through its own hospitality apprenticeship program that provides young people from nearby communities with training and hands-on experience to prepare for careers in the tourism and hospitality sector.
- Nearly 75% of the items used throughout the Lodge are sourced from suppliers in Tanzania.
- 90% of the items offered in the Boutique are sourced from Africa, including 60% from Tanzania.
- Spa products are primarily sourced from TheraNaka, a South African skin and body care brand.
